meet the birkels.

Hi, we’re the Birkels, and welcome to our blog!

This blog was created originally to keep a record of the milestones and cute goings-on of our son, Sam. And it is still mostly that.  Someday, eventually, it might become more than that.

We met in high school, and started dating shortly thereafter. We got married May 14, 2005, and lived in a tiny 603 sq. ft apartment in Muncie, Indiana.

We were very, very young.

Tim graduated with a degree in Creative Writing in 2007 from Ball State University, and currently works as a technical communicator for a small-ish software firm. I (Alissa) graduated with a degree in English Studies (2006, BSU), which means, basically, that I couldn’t make up my mind between Literature and Creative Writing.  I now stay at home with Sam, born 1.18.09, but before that I worked as an editor and freelance writer. Oh, and a Starbucks barista.

We like Jesus, cooking, our church, our families, decorating (Alissa) and home improvement (Tim), being outside (when it’s warm), reading, writing, and books. With two English majors you’ll have that.

Check out our posts on Newsreal, too.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I saw on Twitter that you’re looking for information on Natural Family Planning/ Fertility Awareness. Starting with (self-plug) my blog, I’d also add:

http://www.tcoyf.com (Taking Charge of Your Fertility)
    http://www.njnfp.org

I’m religious, so you’ll find some of my stuff on my site is, too, but NFP is totally equal opportunity enjoyment. Good luck, and feel free to email with questions!

Awesome, thank you! I have read TCOYF before, but I think I need to re-read it more closely. I will also check out your blog! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
